SC Senator Hospitalized Following Brain Aneurysm

Greg Hembree recovering …

South Carolina state senator Greg Hembree was hospitalized on Thursday after suffering a brain aneurysm at his Horry County, S.C. home.

Hembree, 57, is conscious and awake according to his daughter, Nora Hembree Battle.

“He’s okay, he will be in the hospital for a while,” Battle told reporter Christian Boschult of The (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) Sun News. “EMTs were great and got him to the hospital fast.”

Hembree, a former solicitor and local attorney, has represented S.C. Senate District 28 (map) since 2013.  During that time, he has emerged as one of the more even-keeled and level-headed members of the state’s upper chamber – drawing praise from his colleagues on both sides of the aisle.

While we haven’t agreed with Hembree on every issue, he has always advanced substantive policy … and always done so with class and respect for his colleagues (which is a rarity at the S.C. State House).

Battle said Hembree will remain hospitalized for a few weeks, but that his prognosis for recovery is “good.”

We certainly hope so …

Hembree and his family will be in our prayers as he recovers … we’d ask you keep them in yours, as well.
