The Arthur Ravenel, Jr. bridge spanning the Cooper River between Charleston and Mount Pleasant, South Carolina was shut down briefly on Saturday afternoon by black bikers said to be affiliated with the “Ruff Riders” organization.
The Yonkers, New York-based group – which bills itself as “the largest sports bike organization in the world” – claims to be a force for social justice as well as “a strong, cohesive organization that positively impacts the lives of families and communities.”
On Saturday, bikers reportedly affiliated with the group blocked traffic for nearly half an hour on the four northbound lanes of the Ravenel bridge – Charleston’s iconic suspension span. More than a hundred bikes participated in the demonstration, we’re told.
