Less than three hours before polls closed in South Carolina, U.S. president Donald Trump weighed in on the Palmetto State’s first district congressional race between third-term congressman Mark Sanford and his challenger, first term state representative Katie Arrington.
In a tweet sent at 4:15 p.m. EDT, Trump said Sanford “has been very unhelpful to me in my campaign to MAGA.”
“He is MIA and nothing but trouble,” Trump added. “He is better off in Argentina.”
Ha!
That’s a reference to Sanford’s spectacular fall from grace nearly a decade ago, when the former two-term Palmetto State governor was caught lying about his whereabouts as he pursued a taxpayer-funded extramarital affair with on-again, off-again lover Maria Belen Chapur.
“I fully endorse Katie Arrington for Congress in (South Carolina), a state I love,” Trump continued. “She is tough on crime and will continue our fight to lower taxes. VOTE Katie!”

Obviously endorsements don’t come any bigger than this … but is Trump weighing in too late?
Or … has his political team seen something to suggest Arrington is going to upset Sanford?
