An officer-involved shooting took place in Anderson County, South Carolina on Thursday afternoon, law enforcement sources confirmed to this news site.

According to our sources, the officer involved in the incident was “okay” in its aftermath – although the suspect he fired at “got away.”  The officer who fired his weapon is a deputy with the Anderson County sheriff’s office.

The suspect in the shooting is a black male, according to our sources.  The officer who fired his weapon is a white male, we’re told.

No word yet on what precipitated the incident …

This is the sixth officer-involved shooting in South Carolina this year.  Last year 49 officer-involved shootings took place in the Palmetto State – a new record.

As a matter of protocol, all officer-involved shootings in the Palmetto State are investigated by the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) with the findings of those inquiries passed on to the solicitor with jurisdiction over the county where the shooting took place.

In this case, that would be S.C. tenth circuit solicitor David R. Wagner.
