Earlier this week, U.S. congressman Mark Sanford of South Carolina made news when he cast a boneheaded vote against a bill aimed at protecting young women athletes from sexual assault.
Now he’s back to generating headlines as a result of his habitual #NeverTrumping … (a.k.a. Sanford’s reflexive opposition to the administration of U.S. president Donald Trump).
As “Republicans” in Washington, D.C. prepare to release an incriminating memo that has the potential to derail the far left’s “Russian meddling” investigation, Sanford has (surprise) come down on the side of the Obama administration cabal that’s about to be exposed.
Funny … since when does a self-proclaimed libertarian back the play of the nation’s Deep State?
Sanford’s support for the ongoing anti-Trump machinations drew a sharp rebuke from Rick Manning, president of Americans for Limited Government (ALG).
According to Manning, Sanford isn’t interested in justice … he’s playing politics.
“Mark Sanford has made it abundantly clear over the past year that his objective is to attack the president and undermine his administration at every turn,” Manning told us. “From his reckless comments last year in the aftermath of the shooting of his colleague, Steve Scalise, to his impassioned defense of this ongoing liberal witch hunt – Mark Sanford might as well sit with Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats at the next State of the State address. Or head to Hollywood and get a job on the Oprah for President campaign.”
Wow … that’s some heat!
For those of you who missed it, Sanford went on national television last spring after congressman Steve Scalise was shot and nearly killed by a liberal activist … and blamed Trump.
During an appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Sanford claimed Trump was “partially to blame for the demons that have been unleashed” on America.
“They’ll say, ‘If the guy at the top can say anything to anybody any time, why can’t I?” Sanford said.
Conservative leaders like Manning have had enough of Sanford’s antics …

[/timed-content-server]“President Trump is turning this country around after eight years of what can only be described as a daily assault on our liberty and our prosperity,” Manning said. “America is back – but if #NeverTrump politicians like Mark Sanford get their way, all of the progress we’ve made over the last year will be lost. Republicans in South Carolina need to take a close look at who is representing their interests and values in Washington, because Mark Sanford is doing them about as much good as Jim Clyburn at the moment.”
As we’ve repeatedly pointed out, Sanford is exceedingly vulnerable after dramatically underperforming expectations in his 2016 race against underfunded, left-leaning GOP candidate Jenny Horne. This year he’s facing a far more credible challenge from freshman state lawmaker Katie Arrington as he seek a fourth term representing the Palmetto State’s first congressional district.

In fact, Arrington (above) has adeptly positioned herself as precisely the sort of citizen lawmaker Sanford was years ago … before he sold out.
As we’ve repeatedly noted, Sanford used to be the genuine article when it came to protecting taxpayers, but those days are long gone. In fact this news site has written numerous articles over the years chronicling Sanford’s unfortunate evolution into a shill for the #NeverTrump “Republican” establishment.
Seriously … this guy voted for uber-liberal former U.S. speaker of the House John Boehner. And then told us Jesus made him do it.
And he calls himself a “conservative?”
Now he’s shilling for the corrupt Deep Staters who let former Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton off the hook and tried to rig the election against Trump?
Fortunately, those in Washington whose job it is to watch out for citizens and taxpayers’ best interests are recognizing Sanford for what he is … and calling him out.
Let’s hope that continues …
