Sources: Five Points Death Another USC Suicide

Body of student found near railroad tracks near campus …

Three months ago, this news site unleashed holy hell by reporting (accurately, we’d like to add) on a suicide involving a student that transpired on the campus of the University of South Carolina.

Seriously … people lost their minds.

This week, tragedy has struck the school once again.  According to our sources, a body discovered near the school’s downtown Columbia, S.C. campus on Tuesday afternoon (January 23) by city police officers belonged to a 19-year-old USC student – one who appears to have committed suicide.

As was the case last October, we are withholding the name of the deceased as well as other pertinent information related to the situation.

According to law enforcement sources, the victim – a New York native – reportedly hanged himself “with a bedsheet.”  A passerby saw the student’s body dangling from a tree near the railroad tracks running through the Five Points region of downtown Columbia, S.C. and called police.

Preliminary incident reports obtained by this site referred to a “hanged body” and a “likely suicide.”

“He’d been there for awhile when they found him,” one law enforcement source told us.  “Around twelve hours or so.”

So far, Columbia police have only confirmed an “unaccompanied death near the 900 block of Harden Street” – one in which “foul play is not suspected.”

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family of the young man who lost his life in this incident.  We would also reiterate what we said in the aftermath of the last USC suicide we covered, namely that anyone reading this post who is dealing with issues and questioning whether to take their own life, please – stop.  And call a friend.  Or call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline – 1-800-273-TALK.

Don’t let temporary problems compel a permanent and irrevocable “solution.”
