The South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is investigating an officer-involved shooting in York County, multiple media outlets are reporting.

The shooting – which our sources tell us involved a white male officer and a white male suspect – took place around 4:00 a.m. EST Friday on East Old Limestone Road in York, S.C.

The officer involved in the shooting is a deputy with the York County sheriff’s department.

According to our sources, the deputy was responding to a domestic incident when a suspect came at him with a knife.

The suspect died as a result of his wounds at the scene of the shooting.

The incident is the second officer-involved shooting in South Carolina in as many days and the 47th such incident in the Palmetto State this year – just one shy of the all-time record set in 2015.

As a matter of protocol, SLED investigates all officer involved shootings in the Palmetto State and forwards its findings to the solicitor with jurisdiction over the county where the shooting took place.  In this case, that would be S.C. sixteenth circuit solicitor Kevin Brackett.
