Candidate who fired off a “double bird” at his political rival is defeated …

Wilmoth was angry because the husband of a rival candidate was filming him as he campaigned (illegally, it’s been alleged) outside of a Simpsonville polling station.

To his credit, he did take responsibility for this “double bird flip” – issuing a statement acknowledging that he let his “emotions in that situation overcome my logical thoughts.”

So … how did Wilmoth do in yesterday’s election?

He lost … narrowly.

With all six precincts reporting for this ward, Wilmoth received 729 votes (49 percent) – barely trailing winner Lou Hutchings‘ 758 votes (51 percent).

So to the dozens of people texting, emailing, Twitter DM-ing and Facebook messaging us this morning asking “did the bird-flipper win?” the answer is “no.”

He did not win …
