New SC Lawmaker Elected

State legislature has a new member …

Lowcountry attorney Marvin Pendarvis was overwhelmingly elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives on Tuesday, winning a special election for S.C. House District 113 (map).  With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Pendarvis received 1,462 votes (80.9 percent) – easily besting his GOP rival Theron Sandy‘s 343 votes (19 percent).

Gotta love those competitively drawn district lines, huh?

This heavily-gerrymandered seat – which incorporates parts of North Charleston and Summerville – became vacant months ago thanks to the resignation of veteran lawmaker Seth Whipper (news of which was first reported by our website).

Whipper stepped down to become a magistrate.

The outcome of this election – like most legislative races in the Palmetto State – was never in doubt.

Pendarvis was anointed by party insiders and heavily supported by State Senator Marlon Kimpson.  He raised almost four times as much money than his closest competitor in the Democratic primary – Angela Hanyak.

Pendarvis’ election does nothing to change the balance of power in Columbia, S.C.  He will join a governing majority of Democrats and liberal “Republicans” that perpetuates excessive taxingborrowing and spending on a government that produces chronically abysmal outcomes – economicallyfiscallyeducationally and with regards to infrastructurepublic safety and other core functions of government.

In other words the beat goes on (da da dumb da dumb da da) …
