National Democrats want to know how much taxpayer money was expended on U.S. president Donald Trump‘s trip to South Carolina last week on behalf of embattled Palmetto State governor Henry McMaster.
So far, no one is saying …
McMaster’s campaign has directed reporters to the White House, while the White House has directed them back to McMaster’s campaign.
LOL …
Sounds about as well-coordinated as the event itself …
“Taxpaying South Carolinians deserve to know how much they paid to bail out Henry McMaster’s campaign,” said Jared Leopold, communications director for the Democratic Governors Association (DGA). “Until he proves otherwise, it looks like McMaster is propping up his campaign on the back of taxpayers. If McMaster won’t be honest with South Carolinians about his campaign finances, how can they trust him to run the state?”
Actually, we don’t trust McMaster to run the state … but irrespective of our opinion on his competency (or lack thereof), someone really should level with the public about these expenses.
Operating Air Force One costs taxpayers $206,000 per hour – and that’s just one of the costs associated with the president’s attendance at this event (which McMaster donors claim raised $1.5 million for his flagging campaign).
McMaster’s “Trump Card” was supposed to be a huge momentum-builder for his candidacy, but circumstances continued to conspire against the good ol’ boy politician.
Less than 48 hours after Trump left town, McMaster’s proximity to an ongoing multi-jurisdictional criminal investigation once again made the news thanks to the indictment of his longtime political Svengali, Richard Quinn.
Stay tuned … in the event anybody ever comes clean with a total tab for Trump’s travel to South Carolina, we’ll be sure to pass that figure along.
