#GamecockWBB: Picked To Repeat As SEC Champs

A’Ja Wilson named preseason player of the year …

The University of South Carolina women’s basketball team has been picked to repeat as Southeastern Conference (SEC) champions in 2018, according to regional and national media.

Shocker, right?

Head coach Dawn Staley‘s team – the reigning national champions – have either won or shared the SEC regular season championship four years in a row and have won the SEC tournament three years running.

In addition to its team accolades, Gamecock senior forward A’ja Wilson was chosen as the SEC preseason player of the year – an award she has won at the end of the last two seasons.

Wilson has been a consensus first-team All-American, finalist for all three national player of the year awards and SEC Player of the Year (by both the league’s coaches and media) in  each of the last two seasons.  She enters her senior season closing in on scoring and rebounding milestones with 1,642 career points and 804 career rebounds.

During South Carolina’s SEC and NCAA title runs, Wilson averaged 19.3 points and 8.6 rebounds per game – earning her NCAA Final Four and SEC Tournament MVP honors.

Entering her tenth season at South Carolina, Staley has posted a 221-80 (.734) overall mark and a 97-45 (.683) mark in conference play.  Her squad opens its 2017-2018 season on November 10 against Alabama State at the Colonial Life Arena in downtown Columbia, S.C.

Fans interested in purchasing tickets can do so by visiting GamecocksOnline.com or by calling the South Carolina Athletics Ticket Office at 1-800-4SC-FANS (472-3267). Prices start as low as $35 for general admission season tickets.
