Midlands SC School Evacuated

River Bluff High School site of “suspicious package” scare …

A high school in the Midlands region of South Carolina was evacuated this week after a “suspicious bag” was found in a trash can on campus.

Students at River Bluff High School in Lexington, S.C. were evacuated Monday morning in response to the package – a process school officials say they completed in just over seven minutes time.

Fortunately, the “suspicious bag” was later identified by law enforcement as an insulin pump power pack.

“The district takes any report like this very seriously and immediately informed the Town of Lexington Police Department through the school resource officer,” a statement from Lexington County School District 1 noted. “The district thanks the Town of Lexington Police, Lexington Fire Department, Lexington EMS, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department’s bomb squad and the FBI for their prompt response and professionalism.”

Obviously we’re glad this was just a false alarm … and we would also credit local law enforcement and first responders for being on top of this potential threat.
