Allendale: SLED Confirms Officer Involved Shooting Probe

Agency probes state’s 38th police shooting this year …

Agents of the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) are investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred in Allendale County, S.C. on Thursday.

According to a SLED news release (.pdf), a man was shot and wounded by an officer of the Allendale, S.C. police department following a foot pursuit.

“This is an ongoing investigation,” SLED’s release stated. “No other information about the case will be disclosed by SLED at this time.”

Sources familiar with the investigation tell us the police officer and the suspect in this case are both black.  The officer is a female, the suspect a male.

SLED conducts independent investigations of all officer involved shootings in South Carolina, providing its findings to the solicitor’s office with jurisdiction over the area.  In this case, that’s fourteenth circuit solicitor Isaac M. Stone III.

According to SLED, the Allendale incident was the 38th officer involved shooting in the Palmetto State this year.  By comparison, there were 41 such shootings in 2016.

We’ll keep our readers apprised in the event we obtain any additional information about this case …
