There’s a deliciously controversial column in this month’s editions of Glamour magazine from author Korey Raye Lane.
Its title? “Help, I Can’t Stop Hooking Up With Trump Supporters.”
Yeah …
We love columns like this because they not only tap into our libidinousness, they upset people at all points along the American political spectrum. Social conservatives will lose their minds over this column because it’s a woman (gasp!) having recreational sex – and then having the audacity to discuss it in public.
Meanwhile progressives – those bastions of “tolerance” – will go apoplectic over Lane’s column because they reflexively view U.S. president Donald Trump as the root of all evil in the world.
As for Lane?
“I feel sorry for the world that people still find it newsworthy,” she tweeted.
In her piece, Lane discusses how her initial hook-up with a Trump supporter was “hot” and “uncomplicated.”
“All that witty banter about tax codes, emails, and border walls was the foreplay I never knew I needed,” she wrote.
Too funny …
Lane’s second Trump hook-up?
“He was ill-informed, sexist, and loved to start arguments with me,” she wrote. “But once again the thrill of the election and the friction of our differences made the passion so much more palpable in bed. So I pushed aside his ingrained bigotry and instead let it wash over me, filling me with a desire to prove him wrong – or maybe to just be on top of him.”

According to Lane, there’s more than just a physical need being met by her erotic interludes with individuals desirous of Making America Great Again.
“As much as I don’t like the idea of sleeping with people whose values are clearly the opposite of my own, I can’t seem to stop, especially since the election,” she wrote. “I’m an extremely competitive person and knowing that the guy I’m with is on the ‘winning’ team (even though I’m still correct) just forces that competitiveness into overdrive. Even when my annoyance with Trump and his supporters turns into depression, anxiety, and frustration, I still get an odd sense of vindication after sleeping with one of them.”
Individual liberty, people. You gotta love it. Or not. But either way, you gotta respect it.
And we respect Lane … even if we’re not quite sure why.
We penned a column recently on the dangers of America’s reflexively antagonistic, fact-challenged “all in” political climate.
“Political campaigns in this country have become exercises in intellectual dishonesty, contests not of ideas or aspired-for outcomes, but rather of binary bloodsport aimed at the lowest common denominator,” we wrote. “It’s all about which interest group can purchase the most airtime to slap the most convenient, poll-tested label on a given cookie-cutter politician.”
Where should we plot Lane and her unique brand of sexual liberation on the “all in” map? We have absolutely no clue … and we kinda dig that about her.
It’s been said that “everything in the world is about sex except sex.”
“Sex is about power,” Oscar Wilde wrote.
Is that true?
We don’t know … but kudos to Lane for not letting ideological inflexibility stand in the way of her figuring out the answer to that question for herself.
