South Carolina governor Henry McMaster has issued a state of emergency in advance of the impending arrival of powerful Hurricane Irma.
“The state of emergency allows one of the best, most experienced emergency response teams in the entire world to begin organizing response efforts,” McMaster said. “South Carolina is fortunate to have time to allow us to prepare for Hurricane Irma’s potential landfall, and it is important that families and individuals in vulnerable areas use that time to review safety plans in case they are needed.”
McMaster’s order is in response to the latest forecast models for the storm, which show the Palmetto State well within the danger zone for this powerful category five monster – the second-strongest storm ever recorded in the Atlantic Ocean.

Obviously if this forecast track materializes – and if Irma maintains anything resembling its current intensity – we are looking at an exceedingly dangerous situation developing within the next three to four days.
