YORK COUNTY BUST!
A female police sergeant in York County, South Carolina has been fired from her job after admitting to having sexual encounters with five deputies – one of whom was her subordinate.
Sergeant Jenny Forsythe of the York County sheriff’s department admitted to the conduct during the course of an internal investigation into the allegations, according to reporters Hannah Smoot and Andrew Dys of The Rock Hill Herald.
One of the deputies she was sleeping with – Daniel Hamrick – told investigators he and Forsythe began their affair in 2011 and had multiple sexual encounters while they were on duty. Hamrick was also fired from his job by York County sheriff Kevin Tolson, who took office in January.
Four other officers who had sexual contact with Forsythe were suspended without pay for two weeks. One of them was demoted. Like Forsythe, all of those implicated in the scandal confessed to their participation, according to Tolson.
“The harshest discipline was dispensed to those who violated policy and public trust while I have been sheriff,” Tolson said in a statement. “I showed leniency to those deputies whose conduct occurred years, even decades ago, but make no mistake, this conduct will not be tolerated in this agency on my watch.”
Some of the trysts uncovered dated back to 2003, according to the internal report – which was sparked by an anonymous tip provided to Tolson’s office.
Our thoughts? We don’t care if law enforcement officers fraternize with each other sexually (irrespective of their marital status). But having sex while on duty – or having sex with a subordinate – is clearly wrong.
Seems to us like Tolson handled this situation appropriately …
