TWO NEW DISTRICT JUDGES NOMINATED …
U.S. president Donald Trump has nominated a pair of South Carolinians to the federal bench.
According to a list released from the White House late Thursday, Trump has submitted the names of Donald C. Coggins, Jr. of Spartanburg, S.C. and A. Marvin Quattlebaum, Jr. of Greenville, S.C. to serve as district court judges in the Palmetto State.
The two would fill vacancies on the district’s fifteen-judge roster …
Coggins is a shareholder in the Spartanburg firm of Harrison, White, Smith and Coggins, P.C. He received his undergraduate degree from Clemson University and his law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law.
Quattlebaum is a partner in the Greenville office of Nelson Mullins Riley and Scarborough, LLP. He is a graduate of Rhodes College and the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he served as a member of the South Carolina Law Review.
Coggins and Quattlebaum were on a list of ten new judicial candidates submitted by Trump for consideration by the U.S. Senate – the so-called “sixth wave” of judicial appointments. Four candidates for United States Attorney (USA) were also included on the list – although Trump has yet to name a new USA for the Palmetto State.
Trump’s “sixth wave” comes just two days after he was criticized by limited government advocates for “lagging” on judicial appointments.
