GOP CANDIDATE MAKES HIRES …
South Carolina GOP gubernatorial candidate Catherine Templeton has retained a Beltway-based consulting firm to advise her 2018 campaign, sources familiar with the hire told us this week.
Templeton has retained Something Else – a firm with offices in Washington, D.C., South Carolina and Alabama.
“We have extensive experience producing media and advising clients for President, US Senate, Governor, Congress, all the national Republican committees, leading conservative SuperPacs, and several Fortune 500 companies,” the company’s website notes.
Something Else boasts U.S. House oversight committee chairman Trey Gowdy among its client roster. It has also done work for former GOP presidential candidate Marco Rubio.
Among its operatives? Former South Carolina strategist Heath Thompson, who got his start in the consulting shop of veteran “Republican” advisor Warren Tompkins.
Templeton has also reportedly hired a former Rubio operative named Jordan Wiggins to manage the day-to-day operations of her campaign. Wiggins is based out of Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Thus far, Templeton has exceeded expectations in the race for governor – and done so with no professional staff advising her. The 46-year-old Mount Pleasant attorney is running neck-and-neck with incumbent “Republican” governor Henry McMaster in the all-important money race – and has also successfully repulsed McMaster’s early attacks against her candidacy.
In addition to Templeton and McMaster, former lieutenant governor Yancey McGill and current lieutenant governor Kevin Bryant are both announced gubernatorial candidates – while pro-liberty, fiscally conservative State Senate Tom Davis is expected to jump into the race soon.
Filing for the race opens next March, with voters scheduled to go the polls in June.
