RE: SC NUCLEAR PROJECT WILL GO ON
Dear Editor,
I am in favor of completing the V.C. Summer nuclear power station – and a strict budget is required to bring the project online on time.
Coal plants have been decommissioned in the state. Mercury from these plants has damaged the waters of our state. Other nuclear plants in the state are aged. Adequate natural gas is not available or as reliable.
As for Santee Cooper, the state-owned utility exists as a visionary legacy of our ancestors – like a water system to a municipality. Private entities have long salivated over the co-op to increase their profits. The legislature should maintain control over over our natural resources and should not sell our state out.
Sincerely,
Robert Peeples

SIC SEZ …
Robert, Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with our readers. I agree with you on the first point – for the reasons you stated as well as many others. Obviously I cannot agree with you regarding Santee Cooper, as I believe it is not a core function of government to run an energy company. Having said that, I respect your views and your willingness to share them. Thank you!
