MULTIPLE CHARGES REPORTEDLY FILED …

The former superintendent of schools in Williamsburg County, S.C. is reportedly facing multiple charges in connection with an incident that occurred this weekend.

Details are hazy given the lack of online records in this rural corner of the Palmetto State, but a source at the county detention center confirmed that former school superintendent Ralph C. Fennell Jr. was incarcerated as of Tuesday morning.

The source added that Fennell had been charged with one count of burglary in the first degree, one count of possessing a firearm during the commission of a crime and four counts of assault and battery.

That’s consistent with what one of our anonymous sources in the area reported …

Fennell was placed on administrative leave by the Williamsburg school district back in June 2009.  In December 2009, his contract with the district was terminated.

As we exclusively reported earlier this month, Williamsburg County’s government-run school system is currently in the midst of a high-profile turf war over its perpetual failure to educate the young people assigned to its facilities.

The S.C. Department of Education (SCDE) has referred at least one alleged instance of misappropriated funds to federal authorities (seeing as it was a federal grant) – and there is a chance the agency could take over the struggling district if it continues to underperform.
