INVESTIGATOR IN HOT WATER

Agents of the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) have arrested a ranking member of the Spartanburg County sheriff’s department and charged him with first degree criminal domestic violence.

Cecil Bryan Wilkins, 48, of Boiling Springs, S.C. was arrested by SLED agents on Sunday afternoon following an incident that was alleged to have occurred on Saturday.

He was released from the Spartanburg County detention center on Sunday afternoon after posting a $5,000 bond.

At the time of his arrest, the veteran law enforcement officer was a lead investigator for sheriff Chuck Wright – a department that has often cultivated the limelight (and generated its fair share of controversy).

Spartanburg County deputies (correctly, in our estimation) asked SLED to probe the allegations against Wilkins in order to avoid any potential conflicts of interest in the matter.

First offense criminal domestic violence is a felony punishable by up to ten years in prison.  It is the second most serious CDV charge on the books in South Carolina, next to criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.
