EIGHT DEAD IN SHOOTING SPREE …
A Mississippi man is in custody and awaiting charges after killing eight people – including a sheriff’s deputy – during a weekend shooting spree.
The bloodshed began at around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday evening, when police responded to a domestic call in Bogue Chitto, Mississippi. Four people – including three female victims and 36-year-old Lincoln County sheriff’s deputy William Durr – were found dead at that location.
Two juvenile males were subsequently shot and killed in a related incident in Brookhaven, Mississippi – and two additional individuals (a male and female) were shot and killed at a third crime scene.
The suspect in all eight murders? Willie Cory Godbolt, 35, of Bogue Chitto, Mississippi. Godbolt was captured by police at around 7:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.
Reporter Therese Apel of The (Jackson, Mississippi) Clarion-Ledger spoke with Godbolt following his apprehension.
“My intentions was to have God kill me. I ran out of bullets,” Godbolt told Apel. “Suicide by cop was my intention. I ain’t fit to live. Not after what I done.”

Durr, the officer who was slain in this shooting rampage, was a six-year law enforcement veteran.
According to The (Mississippi) Daily Leader, he was a “mild-mannered officer” who put on puppet shows for schools and churches in the area.
“When I was eight years old I had a Charlie McCarthy ventriloquist puppet,” he told the paper in a 2014 interview. “I loved doing that and practiced with it a lot.”
