PRESIDENT’S BASE BACKS HIM ..
U.S. president Donald Trump has seen his approval rating stabilize, according to the latest Morning Consult/ Politico data.
According to the poll – released on Wednesday morning – forty-five percent of voters said they approved of Trump’s job performance compared to fifty percent who said they disapproved.
Just four days previously, 53 percent of voters said they disapproved of Trump’s performance while only 41 percent approved.
“It’s a 7-point swing in the president’s favor, and it came as he shored up support among the (GOP) base,” the pollsters noted.

While we take every mainstream media poll with a grain of salt, this survey’s cross tabs bear out the contention that Trump’s improved standing is the result of stronger support among those who backed his populist insurgency last fall.
Nearly nine in ten voters (88 percent) voters who supported Trump in 2016 said they approved of his performance, including 47 percent who strongly approved. In the previous Morning Consult/ Politico survey, 82 percent of Trump voters approved of his presidency, including 42 percent who strongly approved.
Despite the uptick, Trump still faces questions about his decision to fire Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) director James Comey.
“Many Americans … have misgivings about Trump’s firing of Comey during an investigation into alleged Russian involvement in the 2016 U.S. presidential election – and potential collusion with members of the president’s campaign staff,” the pollsters noted.
