SCDNR INVESTIGATING …

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) has launched an investigation into a boat crash that killed two Midlands men last weekend.

At approximately 11:10 p.m. EDT on Friday, April 21, a 32-foot Intrepid power boat driven by Bruce Dyer slammed into a sixteen-foot bass fishing boat on Lake Murray.

On Saturday, Lexington County coroner Margaret Fisher released the names of the two individuals who died in the crash.

Thirty-seven-year-old Mark Daniel Phillips and 28-year-old Christopher Shawn Lanier – both of Blythewood, S.C. – were killed in the crash.  Phillips was driving the bass boat at the time of the collision and died of blunt force trauma.

SCDNR released Dyer’s name on Monday, but has yet to provide any additional information about the fatal incident.
