The South Carolina Constitution Party has endorsed Republican Kris Wampler for U.S. Congress in South Carolina’s Fifth Congressional District.

Due to state election rules, the SCCP was unable to run a candidate for the special election.  Nonetheless, the SCCP endorsed Wampler because he “has demonstrated a history of working for constitutional government, knowledge of the principles of constitutionally limited government, and associating with organizations that also advocate those principles.”

Wampler expressed appreciation for the endorsement and admiration for the principles advanced by the SC Constitution Party.

“From the beginning, one word has defined my campaign: the Constitution. And every position I have taken has been based on getting the Republican Party back to principles of constitutionally limited government,” Wampler said. “The South Carolina Constitution Party advocates many of the same campaign themes which I have: an end to undeclared, unconstitutional wars; withdrawal from the United Nations and so-called “free trade” deals; abolition of the Federal Reserve; unqualified defense of the Second Amendment and the right to life; and much more. These are principles I will continue to advocate in my party, the Republican Party.”

Wampler called the endorsement a final declaration that he is the only Republican in the race who will steadfastly defend the Constitution.

“Other candidates have attempted to co-opt or copy our message,” Wampler said. “This endorsement, once and for all, settles the matter and demonstrates that I am the best candidate to advance the cause of constitutionally limited government in Washington.

The full text of the SCCP endorsement is as follows:

In an unusual step, the SC Constitution Party has endorsed Republican Party Candidate Kris Wampler, who is running in the special election for the 5th District U.S. House seat recently vacated by Mick Mulvaney.

SC Constitution Party State Chairman Ted Adams states, “Our Party exists to elect (and then support) people of good character and understanding to public office. Unlike other parties, we put our country first, above political party power.

“In 2016, we donated funds to help re-elect three conservative Republican South Carolina state senators who had always voted constitutionally and, consequentially, for the people’s benefit. For this reason they faced challengers who were highly financed by special interest groups including the Chamber of Commerce.
“It’s unusual for us to endorse a candidate who does not have a voting record, but Kris Wampler has demonstrated a history of working for constitutional government, knowledge of the principles of constitutionally limited government, and associating with organizations that also advocate those principles.

“We believe that if elected, Kris Wampler would represent us by voting constitutionally – preserving the Constitutional protections for which ordinary politicians are willing to sell us out because they ignore or don’t understand constitutional principles.

“We strongly endorse Kris Wampler and hope that he will be our next United States Congressman.”
