GUARD STABBED, TWO OTHERS INJURED IN RIOT …

Three S.C. Department of Corrections (SCDC) officers were injured during an inmate attack at Kershaw Correctional Institution, a medium security facility located in Lancaster County, S.C.

One of the three injured officers was stabbed …

The attack occurred at around 3:00 p.m. EDT on Easter Sunday – with guards regaining control of the facility roughly four hours later.

Here’s the official version of events from SCDC …

Around 3 p.m. (Sunday), there was a disturbance in the Oak Unit B Wing at Kershaw Correctional Institution. Three correctional officers were injured during the disturbance and transported to an outside medical facility for treatment for non life-threatening injuries. One of the officers suffered stab wounds during the incident.”

“The Oak Unit B Wing was secured by South Carolina Department of Corrections emergency response teams around 7:30 p.m., and inmates in that unit were all accounted for and back in their cells. There was never a threat to public safety. There was no hostage situation.

The latest incident occurred less than two weeks after a deadly attack took place inside Kirkland Correctional Institution, a maximum security prison located in Columbia, S.C.

That attack left four inmates dead.

This website has reported on a number of SCDC scandals over the years – including efforts by former governor Nikki Haley’s administration to cover up prison riots.  Palmetto prisons have also served as a backdrop for sex scandalsdrone crashes, serious sentencing errors and seemingly limitless contraband.
