TWO $3,500 CONTRIBUTIONS SCRUBBED …
S.C. governor Henry McMaster amended his initial 2018 gubernatorial campaign finance filing this week – removing $7,000 worth of campaign contributions.
McMaster scrubbed a $3,500 contribution from Rachel Palmer of Clinton, Tennessee and a $3,500 contribution from Chad Price of Apex, North Carolina. Both of these contributions – originally listed as having been received on January 27 – represent the maximum amount of money an individual is allowed to contribute to a candidate for statewide office in South Carolina.
The amended filing lowers McMaster’s initial fundraising total – originally submitted in early February – from $160,250 to $153,250.
Big deal, right? Exactly.
McMaster is expected to show anywhere from $1.5 million to $2 million raised when he files his first full campaign finance report later this month, so this revision is likely to be little more than a rounding error in his long-term total.
In fact he reportedly received $700,000 in one night at a recent event.
What could make a dent in his long-term efforts? #ProbeGate – an ongoing criminal investigation into corruption at the S.C. State House that has drawn a bead on his longtime political advisor, Richard Quinn.
Earlier this week Catherine Templeton – McMaster’s top rival in next spring’s GOP gubernatorial race – reported raising $700,000 through the first three months of the year.
