LOWCOUNTRY LABOR LAWYER BACK ON SHORTLIST FOR CABINET APPOINTMENT …

Once again, speculation is swirling that Lowcountry labor attorney and likely 2018 South Carolina gubernatorial candidate Catherine Templeton is being considered for a position in the cabinet of U.S. president Donald Trump.

In fact, Trump is scheduled to meet with Templeton in North Charleston, S.C. on Friday to discuss the possibility of her becoming his next nominee to head up the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL).

Trump’s first choice to lead this agency – fast food CEO Andrew Puzder – was forced to withdraw his name from consideration after several left-leaning GOP Senators refused to support his nomination.

Templeton is one of four candidates currently being vetted to replace him.  The others include Ohio attorney Peter Kirsanow, Florida law school dean Alexander Acosta and Michigan State University professor Joseph Guzman.

This will be Templeton’s second meeting with Trump since his election last November.  The two huddled in his office at Trump Tower in early December to discuss the same post.

Templeton was scheduled to announce her 2018 gubernatorial campaign in January, but held off – prompting considerable speculation as to her political future.

Trump is a staunch ally of S.C. governor Henry McMaster, who wants to clear the field so that he can run unopposed as an incumbent in 2018.  If she’s not appointed to a federal post, Templeton has told several supporters that she plans on announcing her gubernatorial plans in April.
