HIGH COURT RACE SETTLED … WITHOUT A VOTE
S.C. circuit court judge Diane Goodstein submitted notice to state lawmakers late Monday of her intention to withdraw from consideration as a candidate for the S.C. Supreme Court.
Goodstein’s decision means that her fellow circuit court judge – George C. “Buck” James of Sumter, S.C. – will fill the Supreme Court seat vacated by retiring chief justice Costa Pleicones.
Goodstein’s announcement came mere hours after this website ran a post outlining James’ lead in the legislative election – which was scheduled to take place this Wednesday at noon.
There will be no election now. Goodstein’s decision means state lawmakers will elect James by acclamation.
