S.C. GOVERNOR ONE STEP AWAY FROM AMBASSADORSHIP …
S.C. governor Nikki Haley is one step away from becoming the next American ambassador to the United Nations after the U.S. Senate panel charged with vetting her for the office overwhelmingly approved her nomination.
Haley’s nomination by president Donald Trump was approved by all but two members of the U.S. Senate foreign relations committee – even amid renewed concerns over prior ethical lapses and fresh questions about her disastrous personal financial history.
That huge margin means Haley is a lock to be confirmed by the full U.S. Senate, which is likely to consider her nomination within the next twenty-four hours.
Upon confirmation by the Senate, Haley will submit a letter of resignation to the S.C. Secretary of State’s office. At that point, S.C. lieutenant governor Henry McMaster will become the Palmetto State’s 117th governor – and a mad scramble will begin over in the S.C. Senate as to his replacement (McMaster’s office is likely to be filled – eventually – by S.C. Senator Kevin Bryant).
