SOUTH CAROLINA GOVERNOR TOPS LIST OF FEMALE GOP WHITE HOUSE HOPEFULS …
It’s 2017 … which we think is probably a good time for all the “first woman,” “first black,” “first non-Christian” headlines to start dying down.
Seriously … isn’t equality all about treating people equally? Or should we continue to place a premium on our leaders because they have vaginas? Or particular pigmentations? Or because they worship at one place as opposed to the other?
We care about outcomes … the gender, skin color, religion or sexual orientation of the individual achieving these outcomes is irrelevant to us.
Anyway …
Up in Washington, D.C., The Hill has an article up lamenting the “surprise defeat” of former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton – which author Tim Devaney claims “dealt a blow to hopes that the United States would elect a woman as president.”
Those who prefer some estrogen in their executive need not despair, though, because according to Devaney “there are plenty of other women in both parties who could be future candidates.”
The second name on his list? South Carolina’s own Nikki Haley …
Haley might be the Republican woman with the best shot of becoming president, though her chances could hinge on how President-elect Donald Trump does in the White House.
Haley became the first female governor in South Carolina history in 2011. She was thrust into the national spotlight after a white supremacist shot and killed nine people at a historically African-American church last year in Charleston.
Haley ended up getting the Confederate flag removed from the state capitol grounds.
“Nikki Haley has done a very distinguished job in South Carolina,” said Jane Campbell, president of Women Impacting Public Policy. “The whole nation saw her leadership after that young man came into the church and shot people. She came right out and said we’re not going to have the Confederate flag. She took hold of the situation.”
Haley, who gave the GOP response to President Obama’s State of the Union address in January, has been nominated by Trump to be U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
Hmmmm …
Never mind the truth about Haley’s Confederate flag conversion … or her economic record … or the various skeletons in her closet …
Like Clinton, apparently the most important thing to keep in mind is that she has lady parts.
