WAIT … THIS ISN’T ALREADY LEGAL?
We have yet to go through the full pile of draft legislation pre-filed by members of the S.C. Senate in anticipation of the 2017-2018 session of the S.C. General Assembly.

In the meantime, though, one piece of pre-filed legislation that caught our attention was S. 21.
Filed by S.C. Senator Chip Campsen, this bill holds that “a person may use a firearm to kill or attempt to kill any animal during any season in self-defense, defense of another, or defense of domestic animals.”
Of course any individual “who kills or attempts to kill a big game animal or alligator … immediately must report the incident” to the S.C. Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR).
Oh, and surrender the carcass of the animal they shot.
Our view?
How is this not already legal?
Seriously: Do we need a friggin’ law (and follow-up regulations) for something like this?
The phrase “natural law” comes to mind here … or maybe natural selection? Either way, stay tuned for much more from the pile of pre-filed bills.
