That didn’t take long …
S.C. Speaker of the House Jay Lucas‘ office has confirmed that State Rep. Jimmy Merrill – who was indicted today on twenty-eight ethics violations and two misconduct in office charges – has been suspended from office.
Merrill’s suspension is automatic according to state law, but Lucas’ office is the entity responsible for enforcing it.
And it has been duly enforced, we’re told …
Merrill has represented S.C. House District 99 (map) in the S.C. General Assembly since 2001. The district incorporates parts of Charleston and Berkeley counties.
