DOES THIS EXPLAIN GAMECOCK HOOPS STAR’S SUSPENSION?
University of South Carolina men’s basketball star Sindarius Thornwell was arrested back in the spring for driving with a suspended license – an incident which appears to have slipped through the cracks.
The arrest occurred on May 22 in Lexington County – although it was never reported by the media (perhaps because it was not an especially serious offense).
It remains to be seen whether this months-old arrest has anything to do with Thornwell’s unexplained indefinite suspension from head coach Frank Martin‘s program – which is in the midst of a resurgence thanks in large part to Thornwell’s steady play.
A 6-foot-5, 211-pound senior from Lancaster, S.C., Thornwell is averaging 18.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game so far. All of those marks are well above his career averages.
Thornwell has missed just one game due to the suspension … so far.
South Carolina is currently ranked No. 18 nationally in the USA Today/ Coaches’ poll and No. 19 nationally in the AP poll. The Gamecocks (8-0, 0-0 SEC) are scheduled to travel to Madison Square Garden on December 12 to face Seton Hall in the Under Armor Reunion doubleheader.
Hopefully we’ll get some clarity regarding his status/ situation soon …
