LET THE LAW SCHOOL HARANGUES BEGIN …

Students from the Charleston School of Law (CSOL) posted an anemic 50.9 percent passage rate on the July 2016 bar exam, according to results published this month by the S.C. Supreme Court.

Fifty-four out of 106 CSOL students passed the exam this year – compared to 62 out of 108 (57.4 percent) last year and 98 out of 150 (65.3 percent) the year before that.

Three years ago, CSOL posted an impressive 72.6 percent passage rate on the exam.

Clearly the turmoil of the last few years has had a deleterious effect on the institution – which earlier this month was tooting its horn regarding a pair of positive national rankings from Princeton Review.

By contrast, 106 out of 140 students from the University of South Carolina law school passed the exam this year – a 75.7 percent passage rate.  However that mark is down from Carolina’s 80.5 percent passage rate in 2015 and its 82.5 percent passage rate in 2013.

Students from other law schools posted a 69.4 percent passage rate this year – down from 72.1 percent a year ago.
