YOUR LETTERS, OUR RESPONSES …

In case you missed it we’ve been publishing a new feature every few days called the “mailbag.”  Basically, it’s an effort on our part to inject perspectives other than our own into this particular corner of the marketplace of ideas … and to enhance interaction with our readers.

All “mailbag” submissions are anonymous.  If you’ve got something more in-depth (something you’d like to put your name on), you can submit that to us as a letter to the editor or even a longer-form opinion editorial.

We receive and publish tons of those (even when we don’t agree with them).

Got an item you’d like to commend to our attention?  Just send an email to our founding editor (w@fitsnews.com) or use our contact page.

RE: AMERICAN HIGH SCHOOL

bbc-3

Anyone on your team want to tie this story to a comparison of the publicly funded magnet school in Charleston, S.C.?  Rich kids going to a “public” school with a 14:1 student teacher ratio while over 20 percent of students statewide don’t even graduate.

Smart disciplined kids don’t need a 14:1 ratio, rowdy students do. The magnet schools exist at the expense of other schools. Are they actively trying to identify and recruit smart disadvantaged kids that could test in? The ethnic diversity ratio seems to answer that with a big NO. That school exist to give the privileged even more of an advantage while the kids we need to commit the most resources to are being treated like cattle.

Charleston Academic Magnet

#8 out of 21,000+ schools nationally
15 percent ethnic diversity. 3 percent black
3 percent free and reduced lunch
100 percent graduation rate
14:1 student to teacher ratio

SIC SEZ …

Fair point. Although as we’ve frequently pointed out, South Carolina’s disastrous government-run “education” system isn’t just failing low-income minority students, it is failing students of all races and all income levels.  Even our “best” schools trail their peer institutions in other states – and of course America continues to fall further behind the rest of the world.

PORTS AUTHORITY VS. HURRICANE MATTHEW

port-question

SIC SEZ …

First of all, thanks for the “snail mail” submission (that address is on our contact page, for those of you with similar incoming submissions).  As for your question, the S.C. State Ports Authority (SCSPA) is indeed a state entity – one governed by political appointees of the governor.  So … if there was any agency that should have heeded Nikki Haley‘s evacuation orders, it was the SCSPA.  Having said that, the agency’s decision to stay open probably saved the state’s economy a nice chunk of change.

GREENVILLE VOTER PURGE

Greenville

Dear Editor,

There has been a massive voter purge in 2016 in Greenville County. Check for yourself at www.scvotes.org.  All other counties list their June 2016 voter primary voter registration totals, why does Greenville have a “0” listed for voter registration totals for each precinct? Circumstantial evidence suggest that there has been at least a 12 percent to 33 percent decrease in registered voters in some districts since November 2014.  The average voter registration increase in Greenville county was 5.9 percent prior to the 2016 election year.  SC has had a 43 percent increase in voter registration this year.  Compare the difference in Greenville County voter registration numbers in the local office with the state election commission office.  Something is definitely going on and we suggest you look in to this…

SIC SEZ …

We checked this out.  Apparently there was an issue with totals being listed on the state page but not the county-specific page.  Not sure what happened there, but we’re told the problem is being corrected.  According to the latest data, Greenville has 313,858 registered voters – up from 285,305 in 2014 (and up from 295,369 in January of 2016).  Let me know if those numbers check out with what you are seeing.

CHECK IN ON CHESTERFIELD …

cheraw sc

Dear Editor,

Just wanted to let you know the latest news from Chesterfield County’s school board.  Board members just voted themselves a 300 percent pay increase, because they checked with some surrounding counties and found out they were underpaying themselves.  The problem is: They did not do the same with teacher pay.  If they would have been doing their job correctly, they would have found out that teacher pay is higher in the surrounding counties.  Seems we could care less about who are supposed to be looking out for.  Yes, teachers did get a 2.5 percent pay increase, but at the beginning of the year the teacher healthcare premiums and the increase they are required to make into the retirement system will wipe out that pay increase.  Just thought I would let you what else is going on in “jackass country.”

SIC SEZ …

Having covered scandal after scandal in Chesterfield County, I hate to say it but nothing there surprises me anymore.

MORE “RIGGED” ELECTION COVERAGE

dems and repubs

Dear Editor,

This is Part II of the previous undercover video you posted from James O’Keefe.  This video reveals Democratic schemes such as paying people to drive in rental cars from other states to vote in elections.

This is sheer organized crime.

There is profanity in these videos, in case you are offended, be forewarned.

Now we understand how Obama got “elected.”

SIC SEZ …

Yeah … it’s really getting out of hand isn’t it?  Hate it for this country.
