AN INAUSPICIOUS START …

S.C. governor Nikki Haley told 1.1 million Palmetto State residents to check the state’s emergency management website for directions on evacuation routes.

“Know your zone,” Haley said, referring to the S.C. Emergency Management Division (SCEMD)’s hurricane preparedness literature.

The only problem?  SCEMD’s website wasn’t ready for the traffic …

Yeah … oops.

“Our website is experiencing difficulties due to extremely high traffic, we will notify you when it is back up and running,” the S.C. Emergency Management Division (SCEMD) confirmed in a tweet.

Haley is planning to initiate the evacuation of 1.1 million coastal residents at 3:00 p.m. EDT tomorrow (Wednesday) in anticipation of the weekend arrival of Hurricane Matthew, a category four monster that forecast models currently show making a beeline for the North Carolina-South Carolina border.

Let’s hope the state’s roads are better equipped to handle the “traffic.”

UPDATE: Good news.  The SCEMD website is back up and running.  For those looking for evacuation routes, click here.
