Whatever the case may be, you might as well keep your opinion to yourself.
Wait … what?
Obviously we’re joking. Social media exists (for now, anyway) to provide everyone with a platform for expression – including political expression.
(Well, almost everyone).
And unlike some elected officials, we would never urge anyone to keep silent about what they believe.
After all, the stakes are too high …
Here’s the thing, though: Don’t expect your Facebook post to change anyone’s mind.
According to data from the social media marketing firm Rantic, 94 percent of Republicans, 92 percent of Democrats, and 85 percent of independents have never changed their minds as a result of a Facebook post.
Hold up … did we just stumble upon something that everyone agrees on?
LOL.
Despite this monolithic, cross-spectrum opposition to persuasion, people continue to post political content on Facebook – and get angry about other people’s posts.
According to Rantic, 39 percent of Republicans, 34 percent of Democrats, and 26 percent of independents have posted political content on Facebook – and 12 percent of Republicans, 18 percent of Democrats, and 9 percent of independents say they have “unfriended” someone on Facebook due to that person’s political posts.
