SHOULD PAN-AFRICAN FLAG BE FURLED?
It will be a long time before we have a complete picture of the premeditated slaughter of white police officers in Dallas, Texas … but we do know at least one of the perpetrators of this carnage has at least a loose affiliation with the black nationalist movement.
So here’s our question …
Given the national demonization heaped upon the Confederate flag in the aftermath of the June 2015 “Holy City Massacre” – the murder of nine black churchgoers by a flag-toting white supremacist – can we expect similar demonization to be directed at the Pan-African flag?
Fair is fair … right?
To be clear: This website has always looked upon controversial banners – and other symbolic standards – with indifference. To us, these symbols never mattered much because they can be so easily manipulated … just like political labels.
“State leaders can leave it, move it, burn it or use it as a bath towel for all we care,” we wrote of the Confederate flag back in 2011.
Still, if one flag is going to be vilified because it was hijacked by white Americans committing calculated acts of violence … what about the flag hijacked by black Americans who committed similar calculated acts of violence?
Sheesh …
