THE LOCAL SHERIFF HAS SOMETHING TO SAY ABOUT IT …
Apparently our recent post about Florence County (S.C.) sheriff’s deputies staging a celebratory “post-arrest” photo op has created a bit of a stir in the Pee Dee region of South Carolina.
Good … it should have.
This was a dumb idea no matter what the excuse …
… and yet the local sheriff, Kenney Boone, has an excuse.
And here it is …
“The photograph circulated on the internet of FCSO Tracking Team members and the three recently apprehended suspects was provided to the canine trainer from whom FCSO obtains tracking canines out of Edisto Island, SC,” Boone wrote on his Facebook page. “Similar photographs from other successful tracks have been provided for this trainer and posted by him on his Facebook Page. These photographs are also available for review. All photographs are taken and forwarded to the trainer without regard to race, gender or ethnicity of the suspects. The faces of the suspects are blurred by the trainer prior to being posted, and the names of the suspects are not provided.”
Boone added that the “Florence County Sheriff’s Office does not disseminate any information which would violate privacy or otherwise infringe on a suspect’s rights to a fair trial.”
Mmmmm-kay!
So do you buy Boone’s “we were just providing Facebook fodder for a K9 trainer” explanation? Because we don’t.
Oh well, the comment section awaits …
