The mystery has been solved …
The two shooting victims whose bodies were discovered Thursday evening on the Arthur Ravenel Jr. bridge were participants in a double suicide – one officials referred to as a “complicated and somewhat unusual tragedy.”
In fact one of the individuals who took her own life, 24-year-old Lindsey Bedenk of Colorado, left a suicide note on Facebook just hours before setting off for the iconic structure.

The other individual who took his life on the bridge was 30-year-old William Charles Best, Jr. – a native of the South Carolina Lowcountry. According to authorities, the two met each other during mental health counseling.
Police said Bedenk and Best died of self-inflicted gunshot wounds – both apparently opened their mouths, inserted the gun barrel and pulled the trigger.
News of the deaths was exclusively reported by WCSC-TV 5 (CBS – Charleston, S.C.) reporter Meaghan Wallace – who had accurate information on the tragedy hours before other news outlets (and stuck by her reporting during several hours of chaotic uncertainty following the incident).

I know how ugly the Internet can be when people can speak anonymously with impunity. I see it in the comments here. I just wonder what kind hell this world would be if people could act with the same impunity in their homes, schools and workplaces. We are already beginning to see it in politics.
Society has three methods of containing this evil. There is the law, social stigma, and personal ethical self regulation. The only one that the internet has is personal ethical self regulation. I can see that a significant percentage of the commenters here are hadicapped in that department.
We don’t judge these two individuals, especially based on the only act that we know them by. I believe that we really don’t understand mental illness and some can’t understand, others can understand why they took their lives, but we can all be understanding.

Amen. Really telling how much she loved those around her and how she still felt her life was beautiful, but it wasn’t enough for her to keep fighting. Just goes to show how powerful depression can be. When your mind is your own worst enemy there is no escape from it.
