SOUTH CAROLINA’S “WAR ON DRUGS” HAS A NEW CHAMPION

George Becker heads up Richland County (S.C.) sheriff Leon Lott‘s “drug suppression team,” which according to its website uses “innovative proactive policing strategies to deal with community depravation caused by illegal drug activity.”

Hmmm … strategies like these

Never mind the depravation caused by government-perpetuated dependency and ignorance … or the costly failure of government’s failed “War on Drugs,” which has burned through more than $1 trillion of your tax money with absolutely nothing to show for it.

Anyway, Becker’s unit coordinates drug control efforts among federal, state and local agencies.  It also “works with community groups to learn of their concerns and responds to their tips related to illegal drug activity.”

Apparently some believe Becker would make a good successor to Lott, as evidenced by this bizarre video originally posted on the Richland County sheriff’s YouTube page …

Um … huh?

While it was more than a little odd to find this clip posted to a public channel (and a bit disappointing to see that it contained scenes filmed on public property), we’re not going to get our panties in a wad about that.

It’s obviously just a few deputies trying to have some fun at the expense of their boss …

What’s worrisome to us is the underlying mindset the video displays as it relates to the ongoing militarization of police – not to mention their escalating contempt for individual liberty.

One positive from the clip?

Its ironic embrace of recreational drug use … which is further evidence that politicians should not stand in the way of long-overdue decriminalization and legalization of (at the very least) medical marijuana.

I’m just glad to see I’m not the only one he obsesses on. Not that I would wish that on anyone else. Self-contradictory? Yes. But there it is.

I only spent 4 seconds and feel just as bad for doing so.

I kept waiting for him to do something actually funny or a Chief Shorty cameo. Nada.

I wonder what happened to that plan. I was hearing stories late last year that Leon was going to retire and (seriously, I’m not joking here) run Shorty as his replacement.

Kind of a latter day version of these guys.

I always laugh at this video because some of the characters in it look like guys I worked with in the 80’s.

$10 says some of these video clips were made on the public dime. More wasted taxpayer dollars, as usual.

What the fuck?? And yes, please Legalize Marijuana.

*So let’s revisit two questions…Is marijuana addictive? Yes, and results in a real, visible change in the brain’s reward system. And is marijuana safe? No, and the younger you start or the more you use over time, the more dangerous it is to your brain. Whether or not you believe recreational marijuana should be legal, it’s time to admit its power as
a dangerous, addictive drug.

Bullshit on most of that. Yes, it is bad for kids like any other drug but it doesn’t do more harm than benzos, opiates, or that fucking beer you’re drinking.

I see no harm in the deputies having a little fun. Law enforcement is stressful enough.

What I do have issue with is Leon Lott! It is time for new leadership at the sheriff’s department. Leon Lott has had his time but has been in too long now that he has transition from being a law enforcement sheriff who serves all to a HITLER type persona where he only serves himself and the selected politicians. It is known that Leon Lott refers to himself as the Strom Thurmond of law enforcement and that he will never be beat by a black challenger.

The deputies are fearing for their jobs because Leon knows many of them are hoping that he not win this election. They know they can not depend on him to support them when they need his support and at first sign that it looks like the media will ask him about how any of his deputies handled a situation, he is quick to toss them to the street and wash his hands of it.

Yep and Hitler Leon’s gift to the black community is to always have his 2nd in command with little to no real authority in that position to be black.

Notice the heavy “New York” accent. Most cops that end up in the south from that state were run out of town.

I just love these war on drugs law enforcement teams. They know who is dealing and buying, but never arrest anyone. They always say they are building a better/bigger case. Seems the only drug offenders arrested are by the highway patrol during traffic stops. So close down the drug teams and put them all on traffic safety.
