BUT … WHY?
The South Carolina Democratic Party (SCDP) will contest another “swing” district in 2016 – with attorney Victor Li filing to run for S.C. House District 53 (map here).
This rural seat – which straddles the North Carolina border and includes parts of Chesterfield and Lancaster counties – is currently held by “Republican” Richie Yow. He’s the GOP candidate who was narrowly defeated in 2012 by Democrat Ted Vick (yes, that guy) but claimed the seat two years later when Vick declined to seek reelection.
Li says he’s running “out of a frustration with Columbia’s inability to pass a bill to improve our roads and infrastructure necessary to attract new industry to the rural parts of our State and with Columbia’s refusal to pass a bill that fully funds rural school districts so that our students can be prepared to compete in the 21st century workforce.”
In other words, he’s a big government liberal who believes more taxing and spending is just what South Carolina needs to move forward.
Yow? He’s one of the “Republicans” who voted to raise the gas tax … so we’re curious why Democrats would run someone against him. Hell, he’s already effectively a member of their party …

I had hopes that Yow would be a good representative. Seems as though just walking through the doors of the Capitol brings about an instant transformation.
On the bright side, he has not been caught for drunken driving……yet.( he replaced Vick), of “I am walking like this because of the rocks in my shoe” fame.
This is your district?
Yes, it is. He’ s a nice guy, but he has been coerced to a couple of deals like this one that has set him off course. I went to a few of his rallies going back to the first time he challenged Vick and lost. It was not until Vick decided to give up the seat did he win the election.
I used to be a member of the Republican party here, but decided to give it up for reasons that nothing to do with politics.
Senators Bright, Verdin and Peeler had the guts to honor
patriots and Southern heritage by voting to KEEP the flag
And there are 20 House members with steadfast loyalty whom
Tea WILL support and about whom we can brag
Those patriot House members are Bedingfield, Burns, Chumley,
Corley, Delleney, Hardee, Hill, Johnson and Kennedy
Then Loftis—Moss (both D.C. and V.S.), Nanney, Putnam,
Simrill, Spires, Stringer, Taylor, Thaylor—and let’s see
White makes twenty and that is plenty of reason to get out
and vote this year and beyond that let us just say
Legislators’ names YOU DON’T SEE HERE…let us make it crystal
clear…need to be UNELECTED on election day !!!
Won’t somebody PLEASE run against Todd Atwater, or is everyone waiting for him to announce for the statewide job he covets and then run for the vacant seat??

Just fix the fookin’ roads.
i’m a registered republican , but would vote dem. if it meant fixing these fucking god awful roads. tax’em steal from em dont give a shit . These roads are fucking deplorable and dont need to be patched but repaved. north car . has a gas tax and always has a road project going on . but not these fucktard sandlappers. they dont want there taxes raised
I am pretty sure that Victor Li doesn’t even live in Chesterfield County and still has his law practice in Columbia. Supposedly, he’s “moving back to Cheraw” from Columbia, but I’ll believe it when i see it. This sounds like more of the dirty political tricks that are too familiar in our neck of the woods. Something’s fishy.
So, if you want decent roads for our citizens to drive on, or decent schools for our children to be educated in, according to FITS’s benighted view of things, you’re a “big government liberal who believes in more taxing and spending…”
