JOHN McINTOSH TO RUN FOR HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
A deputy attorney general will leave his powerful post to seek election to the S.C. House of Representatives, multiple sources familiar with the forthcoming announcement tell FITS.
John McIntosh – a veteran deputy attorney general who has worked under “Republicans” Alan Wilson, Henry McMaster and Charlie Condon – will announce his candidacy this week for S.C. House District 89 (map here).
That’s the seat being vacated by S.C. Rep. Kenny Bingham, who shocked political observers last week by announcing his intention to step down at the end of his current term.
Also running? Prosecutor and ex-Marine Micah Caskey.
McIntosh’s decision is surprising considering the immense influence he wields within the attorney general’s office. For more than a decade, he’s basically run the office (for whatever that’s worth of late).
Why would he give up that sort of juice to become a freshman state lawmaker – at the age of 77, no less?
Hmmm …
UPDATE: Well, well … it looks as though McIntosh has thought better of it.

Hello…Kenny?…it’s Alan returning your call and—about your government contracts being so much fun
Why yes if you step down we can double those contracts—I’ve got at least two more hacks who will run !!!
John has run the AG’s office for longer than that. The AG’s rarely show up. He will be missed.
McIntosh is a stand up guy, i’ve worked with him in the past. He will be an excellent Rep.
Will, just to inform you for future reference, their are no “ex-marines” only “former marines”.
