WILL OTHER MEMBERS OF SOUTH CAROLINA’S “CONSERVATIVE” DELEGATION FOLLOW HIS LEAD?
Earlier this week two South Carolina lawmakers – S.C. Rep. Gary Simrill and S.C. Senator Tom Davis – jointly announced legislation aimed at getting the Palmetto State’s congressional delegation to reassert its constitutional authority in Washington, D.C.
News of this legislation – which is part of a broader nationwide movement against ongoing executive overreach by the administration of Barack Obama – was first reported by this website.
One member of the South Carolina congressional delegation – U.S. Rep. Jeff Duncan – is thanking Simrill and Davis for their efforts.
“I appreciate folks at the State House standing up for their Tenth Amendment rights and holding the federal government’s feet to the fire on this,” Duncan said. “Congress’ authority is constitutionally limited by Article I, and the states’ and the people are reserved all other rights and powers under the Tenth Amendment.”
“For the past seven years, we’ve witnessed a president who has thumbed his nose at both the Article I powers of the legislative branch and the states’ powers under the Tenth Amendment,” he added. “It’s important to have members of Congress working to limit our own power and executive power, but it’s just as important a check and balance for the states to stand up for their rights. I fully support this effort from my friends Gary and Tom to do just that.”
Duncan is a co-sponsor of legislation introduced by U.S. Rep. Ken Buck of Colorado that seeks to reaffirm this constitutional balance by reclaiming Congress’ power over the purse. Buck’s bill contains numerous provisions House “Republicans” should have included in the budget they passed last year – including the defunding Obama’s radical neighborhood engineering scam.
Unfortunately, the GOP balked.
Hopefully other “Republican” members of South Carolina’s delegation – Trey Gowdy, Mick Mulvaney, Tom Rice, Mark Sanford and Joe Wilson – will join Duncan in backing Buck’s effort. In the meantime, Simrill’s version of the legislation has already attracted a dozen co-sponsors in the S.C. House less than twenty-four hours after it was read across the desk for the first time.

What is that strange device Duncan is holding in his right hand. I remember seeing those in old movies.

Lol
Could it be the Constitution? Naaw…no one has read that in ages…
Don’t you understand that Duncan is speaking to Jesus as he does before making any decision? Just another feather headed, extreme right wing nutcase from the great state of South Carolina.
what an amazingly information-free piece.
DFWT Mulvaney needs to learn some history. The Tenth Amendment was severely modified by the Fourteenth Amendment so as to limit the power of states.
Welcome back Man-d…. glad to see your writing such informative articles again.
