OPEN BORDERS, LOST OPPORTUNITY
The United States is home to a whopping 61 million immigrants and immigrant children, a new study by the Center for Immigration Studies has concluded. That’s one out of every five people living in the country – compared to one out of fifteen less than half a century ago.
In fact 18.4 million new immigrants have arrived in the United States over the last fifteen years alone.
The Center for Immigration Studies report (.pdf here) found that roughly three quarters of this massive immigrant population – 45.3 million people – came to the country legally.
“While the national debate has focused on illegal immigration, the enormous impact of immigration is largely the result of those brought in legally,” the report’s authors asked. “These numbers raise profound questions that are seldom asked: What number of immigrants can be assimilated? What is the absorption capacity of our nation’s schools, health care system, infrastructure, and, perhaps most importantly, its labor market? What is the impact on the environment and quality of life from significantly increasing the nation’s population size and density? With some 45 million legal immigrants and their young children already here, should we continue to admit a million new legal permanent immigrants every year?”
Those are very good questions. They also go to the very heart of what we were saying in our recent post opposing controversial refugee resettlement programs.
Wasting little time in seizing on the new data? Donald Trump, the brash GOP frontrunner whose aggressive opposition to illegal immigration has vaunted him to the top of the “Republican” ticket.
“Record rates of immigration have produced lower wages and higher unemployment for U.S. workers,” Trump said in a statement. “Pew polling shows 83 percent of all voters – Democrats, Republicans and Independents – think immigration should be frozen or reduced. The biggest beneficiaries of allowing fewer foreign workers into our country would be minority workers, including all immigrants now living here, who are competing for jobs, benefits and community resources against record waves of foreign workers.”
Trump added that “limiting job competition would reopen pathways to middle-class stability and shrink welfare rolls.”
“In addition, it would relieve overcrowding in our schools and hospitals that afflict our poorest communities,” he said.
According to Trump, his main rivals for the GOP nomination – U.S. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas and Marco Rubio of Florida – have failed to lead on this issue. In fact, he accused them both of moving in the opposite direction.
“Senators Cruz and Rubio have led the charge for even higher immigration rates – a policy supported by only 7 percent of the Republican electorate,” Trump said. “When I am President we will listen to the people – not the special interests – and get immigration numbers under control, as the voters have demanded.”
This website hasn’t breathed fire on the immigration issue in the past, but we’ve consistently rejected amnesty and government benefits for those in the country illegally. Clearly this study raises a whole new question: The growing problem associated with legal immigration.
The new report – based on government data – is just the beginning of that problem, as the federal government is planning to issue a whopping 10.5 million green cards over the next decade, according to data released by a U.S. Senate subcommittee last August.

Translation: “If we let more legal immigrants in, then our base will be even more doomed to lose elections!”
/ignores fact that most Americans’ ancestors were legal immigrants and not Native Americans.
… ignores, “that was then, this is now”.
Look what unchecked immigration did for the Native Americans and their culture. Do we really wish to be so stupid as to ignore that lesson?
Seriously? Not being snarky.
I grew up in a part of the country where nearly every family on the block was maybe 1st generation or second generation American. Nearly every kid I went to school with had grandparents from Germany, Italy, Greece, Hungary, Yugoslavia – you name it. Nearly half of every household spoke two languages, a number of them three if you inclued Hebrew. People that had pizza parlors actually spoke Italian. I worked in a bakery where the wife was an immigrant from Germany, the husband 1st generation German American. We didn’t become deranged, our culture wasn’t destroyed. When I was a kid the idea that anyone would drive down Bergeline Avenue in Bergen and Hudson counties was absurd, drug infested, full of crime, run down Italian bakeries and stores, people moving out. Today, it’s a vibrant community of multiple cultures, on the south end Spanish-speaking folks from all over the Hemisphere, to the north Korean. The fact is the US is a country built by immigrants. The northeast remains an immigrant hub, or mill, that takes in immigrants, absorbs them to our culture, and they move on. So is South Florida, California. God – stop acting like all change is bad.
Times have changed. Our economy has changed. We have no jobs for the uneducated trash illegally crossing these borders,Not only are they uneducated but they are filthy, diseased carrying American haters that have no desire to assimilate into the traditional foundations of this country. The immigrants you speak of came to work and become part of the American fabric. The illegal immigrants crossing the southern border are here for freebies and being used to vote democrat.
If we don’t have jobs for them, why are they working? So they’re all filthy deseased? Who are you – son of Hitler? The immigrants coming today become part of the American fabric. You just hate them because, let’s be honest here Flip Pogo Sandi Ter – you actually hate yourself. You hate that you’ve been left behind by society and America, that your own country really sees you as an oddity, unable to adjust to the future, longing for a return of 1982, Flock of Seagulls, Oak Ridge Boys and TV preachers. You hate the fact that the world has moved on. And so you are upset with yourself. I understand. But hey, things are looking up. Our country is still great, and opportunity exists for all. Where else could the half-black son of a single Mom, attend Ivy League schools, excel and become President of the United States before the age of 50? No other country I can think of.
Not my fault one wife dumped ya and ya had to find some illegal trailer trash to marry and then have the taxpayers support the clan.Don’t be so angry Pedro.
As always, you’re a class act.
If FitsNews was not such a click-whore, the class act behind all of these phony guest names would be banned for life.

Hi Rocky! I am not against all immigration, as I imagine Donald Trump isn’t against ALL immigration
As I have noted many times, I am solidly against unchecked immigration. Most cultures have something positive to contribute when they come here. I enjoy Mexican food and regularly eat in Mexican restaurants. I don’t carte’ blanche hate Mexicans or any other country from south of our border. We have strong cultures of Greeks, Italians, Vietnamese, Chinese, British, Germans, etc, etc, etc, who all contribute to our society and have for decades, perhaps centuries. Unchecked immigration into this country by any of those groups in this day and time would be detrimental to our economy and our way of life.
Key word = “unchecked”
With you on unchecked. So the obvious solution involves a streamlined, effective immigration system that brings people through the front door, and doesn’t force them to come in illegally. Why in the name of all that is Holy can’t we just fix the dang system? So if there are 150K Mexican visas issued a year to immigrate, and another 80K come illegally, isn’t it at all possible we should up the 150K to 200K? At the same time there are allowable numbers from other areas that go unused. I mean, this current system, and the laws, are from 1986? For God’s sake, it’s 2017.
Numbers allowed into this country from wherever need to be based on what is good for our country as a whole, NOT how many people want to come here. As shitty as things are here, they must really be bad in other places. It is not our duty to accommodate every swinging dick (or meat curtain) who decides they want to live here. I agree, some of the citizenship requirements and hoops for naturalization are a bit ludicrous. If anything, yhe system has been slanted in accomodation of illegal immigrants for somevtime.
A friend and co-worker had a girlfriend who was Scottish. Her girlfriend came over here several times, staying the allotted maximum number of days each visit and then flying back home, being careful to comply with all laws and regulations as she didn’t want to screw up a good thing. Some bright light in ICE , DHS, or like bastion of “great minds”, noted that this person had made multiple trips here, staying the maximum number of allowed
And I can personally sympathize with that friend’s plight, and had to deal with it myself. That’s the point. It’s no longer a logical system. For example, if I ran an advacado farm in central CA, and needed 50 workers for 9 months of the year, and there was adequate, timely and efficient methods to have immigrant labor, legal, come and do it, I’d jump at it. But since there’s not, I’ll take the illegals. And once they cross, why would they go back, since getting caught coming in three months later, would be a disaster. So they stay. I’ve talked with dairy farmers in upstate NY who’s greatest fear is their workers, trying to visit relatives at home, will be stopped at the border and not allowed to return. The argument of good for the country – is valid. What I haven’t seen is how any of those here now (criminals aside) have not benefited the country as a whole. So as long as we have jobs for them, that they want to peform, let’s make it legal. The reality on the southern border, for example, is we have net negative migration right now. Mexico last year had a median income range of over $7,000 a year, and is on par with Brazil. So Mexicans are improving Mexico. But so what. There will be another wave of someone else after that. There always is.
Cruz is an immigrant and the child of an immigrant.
Rubio is the child of immigrants.
Trump is the child of an immigrant mother, grandchild of immigrants on his father’s side. One ex-wife and his current wife are immigrants. Trump’s children each have one immigrant parent.
Jeb Bush married an immigrant.
Another straw man, or should I say, straw men.
Dude, find a life somewhere.
Mitch, show some substance in your comments or go back to your NASCAR blogs.
All of them would be included in this study, including Trump’s youngest son, possibly his oldest if Ivanka wasn’t a US citizen when he was born. It might even include Obama since his dad wasn’t a US citizen. Nikki definitely would be included in it. Look at the end notes for this study on their website. It counts and makes assumptions through Census Bureau reports that stretch back to 1970. LOL, and CIS claims it is not nativist organization.
There is a bigot in NC that publishes on his website the number of illegals who are arrested. The problem is, he just tallies up anyone with a ethnic sounding name. Martinez, Chen..etc
So you’re saying if we had the wall back then we wouldn’t be having this problem?
Yeah. But add Obama to the list. ;-)
I recognize that there is an immigration problem, but a proper immigration policy doesn’t take opportunities from the natural born citizen, but creates opportunities. People so easily fall for the limited pie theory of economics = more people sharing a limited pie –, but the truth is that immigrants bake more pies.
We would be in worse condition economically, if not for 60 million immigrants and their children.
Straw man argument. Not worth the time to knock him down.
Don’t you have a job or a hobby or a wife you can send time with and get off the blog?
Mitch McConnell’s wife – “When she was eight years old, in 1961, Chao came to the United States on a freight ship with her mother and two younger sisters. Her father had arrived in New York three years earlier after receiving a scholarship.”
In Sept, Will was complaining about the low US birth and how that was going to lead to a lower labor participation rate.
Will appears to be trying to make up for that low birth rate all by himself.
LMAO!!! Being the advocate for killing the unborn that you’re surly you can appreciate Will’s efforts to repopulate the earth?
Good one!
I don’t mind immigration of any kind as much as I mind MY GOVERNMENT LYING to me.
We can manage legal and illegal immigration. We can manage policing of these groups. We can do it all if we chose to, but the powers that be would rather have cheap labor and reliable leftwing votes and simply LIE TO US!
And yes, Senator Graham…I am talking about you (and others).
Policing of these groups? You mean immigrants should have undercover cops following them around? Like German expats in Anderson?
Don’t be stupid.
He has no other choice.
Hold the line with Trump. Will see him again Saturday.

Never seen anything like it.Not surprised. One would have to be an animal to do the work you have done your whole life.Lowlife pussy’s like you prey on the most vulnerable in our society (the unborn) as you’re a soul less, gutless POS.
According to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), all US citizens and lawful permanent residents (i.e., green card holders) must have health insurance. The law requires that every person have health insurance or pay a fine along with all of their medical care treatment costs.
No, yes they are. So long as they are legal resident aliens, they must have insurance and obtain it through the exchange.
Then change the law. Oh right, you’re party won’t.
You got it!!! Democrats can’t win elections anymore without illegal immigration and Amnesty.BUILD THE WALL!!!!
Illegals don’t vote. You’re just trying to deflect your own Party’s looser ness.
Trump will save our party from those lousy moderate RINOs that think minorities are our equals! LMAO!
FAIR, CIS and NumbersUSA are all part of a network of restrictionist organizations conceived and created by John Tanton, the “puppeteer” of the nativist movement and a man with deep racist roots … CIS was conceived by Tanton and began life as a program of FAIR. CIS presents itself as a scholarly think tank that produces serious immigration studies meant to serve “the broad national interest.” But the reality is that CIS has never found any aspect of immigration that it liked, and it has frequently manipulated data to achieve the results it seeks.
Brown people scare me, build the wall around Home Depot and those construction sites down town!
