WHERE’S THAT “PALMETTO PRIDE?”
South Carolina was one of the thirteen colonies to declare its independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain in 1776 … but the intervening two-and-a-half centuries haven’t exactly seen the Palmetto State “un-yoke” itself.
According to data collected from 2004 to 2013 by The Pew Center, South Carolina ranks eighth nationally in terms of the percentage of its economy that’s comprised of federal spending.
Take a look …

There’s another chart worth considering, though …
According to recent calculations by Ryan McMaken of The Mises Institute, South Carolina ranks fourth among the states in terms of the amount of money it receives from Washington, D.C. per dollar in taxes paid.
For every $1.00 the Palmetto State sends to the federal government, it gets a little more than $3.00 back (more than twice the national average of $1.20).
Here’s that graph …

(Graph: Via)
How’s all that federal money working out for us? Well, we’re dirt poor, our workforce is among the nation’s smallest, our schools are the nation’s worst and more than half of our live births are covered by Medicaid.
“It’s a great day in South Carolina,” right?
While the low-intellect temptation would be to view getting $3.00 back for every $1.00 we send to Washington, D.C. as a “good deal,” there are strings attached to that money. And a stigma.
Seriously … isn’t the goal to be a state with high income levels that doesn’t need handouts? Not a state where one out of five residents is on food stamps?

No. The goal is to take the money from the pyramid base, and transfer it to the top, while passing laws to insure that once transferred, it can’t make its way down again.
Stereotyping the victims as not willing to work helps to ensure that the lack of jobs doesn’t get confused with inability to pay the rent.
After all, EVERYONE can’t be a billionaire!
It didn’t use to be like that in China 40 years ago. Back then practically everyone was dirt poor and there were no billionaires. Now they China has over 200 billionaires and the people are much much. ….. Oh, wait….
And Kansas sure solved that tax burden for the rich didn’t they…
You picked one of 31 Republican governors. Since January 2011, when Brownback took office these charts are headed in the right direction.
http://data.bls.gov/timeseries/LASST200000000000006?data_tool=XGtable
I live it when you slay em with facts.
‘love it’
I also love Donald, he really supports my Klan’s values.
One of 31 governors but there are plenty other failures. Jindal, Haley, Walker, Scott, Snyder. We would be here all day to point them all out.
You need to do your research. Compare job growth in Republican controlled states to Democratically controlled states.
I was drunk when I posted that.Sorry.You’re right.
Job growth is one factor of many. If you run the state budget into the ground who cares if you scraped together a few jobs? A few jobs helps a few people, an across the board tax increase or budget cut affects everyone. By those standards Republicans do horrible and in many states.
Right….
Google “Kansas deficit”
No.Not everyone can be the Clinton’s.
Idiot. You DO realize that money includes federal retiree pensions, military paychecks, and federal contract purchases, right?
And?
So, South Carolinians are good at defrauding the gov’t through ‘disability claims’ and welfare fraud. White southerners are the kings of this abuse.
“While we can see that the net tax receiver states do indeed benefit from
large amounts of federal spending, we must also take into account the
fact that federal policy may also be hobbling those local economies
while favoring and redirecting wealth toward the net tax payer states.”
It could be the high crime rate is impacting economic development.
Q: Why are there so many unsolved murders in South Carolina?
A: There are no dental records and everyone has the same DNA
++++++!!!
+10 for a Mises reference
The Left sees the problem of poverty as possibly being mitigated via the use of government transfer payments from the wealthy(and not so wealthy- middle class for example).
They ignore that poverty has been creeping up since LBJ and that after 50 years of policy involving huge government wealth transfer(theft) the problem hasn’t gone away, but actually become worse- with the creation of generational welfare classes.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0Yp1jUtcX8
This fact, coupled with the fact that the wealthy class controls government(and simply makes the wealth transfer from the middle class heavier via tax loopholes, etc.), the very government that they hope to use to effect MORE wealth transfer- seems to bounce right off their skulls.
Fits grabbing charts from the Mises Institute and posting them on the net is aggravated voyeurism if ever there was. Let’s hope he keeps on voyeuring!

Epic fail, Thomas. LoL!
Typical Trump supporter. Can’t help but look like an idiot.
We have been complaining about loopholes and cuts going to the wealthy for about 40 years now. Those come especially during periods of Republican control, although Clinton was complicit in it to a certain degree and Obama to a much greater degree.
Unfortunately the right has been fooled into thinking these loopholes and cuts for the wealthy somehow help them. They don’t, it just concentrates more wealth at the top and the national debt will eventually kill every social program, and the rich won’t even bat an eye when it happens.
Yes, the Left has been complaining about loopholes and trying to wrest government from the wealthy…hell, they’re leading candidate is one of the 1%!!!!!
The Left is just as bamboozled by their candidates and the Right is theirs.
Two wings of the same party….
Obama will make the Clinton’s look middle class.
Maybe…maybe….it’s certainly a long ways from the days of rejected credit cards at airport car rental stations for him.
Flip don’t confuse them with the facts. Some 20% of South Carolinians are functionally illiterate.
30 percent are black and 40 percent of South Carolinian’s vote Democrat.Higher than 20%.
Thank you for supporting white nationalism!
Fits you be funny!
Make the Confederate States of America great again, vote Trump!
Sounds good! Bernie can take FaraConn as vp!
Dude, you shouldn’t rip on Farrakhan- he actually likes Trump:

That crooked corrupt MF LBJ is smiling wherever he is and thinking “War on Poverty my ass!”.
He’s also saying…Told you so, those….. will be voting democrat for 200 years.
I ain’t voting Democrat.I am a American hating socialist voting for the communist Bernie Sanders.
I wonder how much of that gov’t spending goes to the old farts here at the FitsNews comments section? You fuckers sit on your asses all day going back and forth. Do you ever leave your computers? You definitely don’t have jobs, that’s for sure.
There is a good chance I pay more in payroll tax than you make dummy. Have you ever heard of a smart phone or does your Mama refuse to cover more than a Walmart Flip Plan?
It’s cool, buddy boy. Guess I hit a nerve….happens when hypocrites hear the truth. Carry on…the checks will keep coming.
What Taz is trying to say is….he might have a job, but he plays with his ‘smart phone’ ALL DAY long. Like a millennial girl who works in a mall.
LMAO!!! Ole Taz cheats his employer everyday. That is what liberals do.
They are all liberal socialists here. It’s what enables them to sit here all day long, every single day (it appears), and talk shit. You know these two stopped commenting here just to give the appearance that they are not what they got called out for. Too funny! Don’t sweat it, Taxpayer.
Liberals like you!
How is that possible when you post on Fits 24/7?
I used to have a sign that said “Just because I make it look easy doesn’t mean it isn’t work.”
Taz the troll pogo is trying to impersonate me again, I think very highly of you so if it looks like my name is bashing you it is the troll and not me. God bless!
Maybe use a safety password? May I suggest Ohio State Buckeyes suck?
He has a separate account and just copies my name and picture, so all I can do is report him.
Report away you stupid American hating faggot.
You tell him my Aryan brother!
Why I can sit on my drunk ass 24/7.God Bless LBJ!
If LBJ isn’t roasting in hell, there is no such place.
We see that in a two-party split, 60-80% of welfare recipients are Democrats, while full time Workers are evenly divided between parties.
You have similar results in this recent NPR-Poll. Among the Long Term Unemployed, 72% of the two-party support goes to Democrats.
It appears that once more common sense is right and the impression left by the New York Times wrong. Indeed, people who live off the government disproportionally support Democrats.
Welfare bums like me learned how to cheat the system long ago.
Milo Moroni owned a small Italian restaurant frequented by local politicians. Because he was popular with his neighbors, Milo decided to run for a minor local office.
Jim Johnson, the local political boss, acted as his mentor. Milo was elected by a landslide. Several years later, there was an opening for the city council. Johnson pulled strings and Milo was elected handily.
Milo moved on to become mayor, a congressman, and finally a senator. Sitting with Johnson the morning after the election that elevated him to the high office of senator,
Milo was not as happy as he could have been.
Johnson asked, “Hey, you’re a senator now. That’s a big office. What else could
you want?”
Milo said, “I was wondering if you could do one more favor for me. Could you help me become a citizen?”
It’s the military, numbnuts.
Just another state run by the GOP and the Tea Party. Nothing new.
The funny thing, if the majority of SC voters had its way, these subsidies would end, for the most part. Yet libs force SC to take the subsidies then blame SC Rethuglicans for SC’s dependence.
We’re the Mongoloid State! Good thing Mercy Killing is illegal. What other “State” would have Nikki as Governor?? And Shitwater Benjamin as Mayor of the Capitol City (sans water and sewer). That level of stupidity speaks for itself.
Revive Sherman 2016! LMAO!!!
What would be interesting is to see how that breaks out. For example, Fort Jackson and the air force base to the east, and what’s left of the Navy in Chucktown, and Parris Island, probably are a lot of that. And not sure how much that spills over to the local economy (i.e. jarhead and ruck humper recruits probably don’t get a lot of leave time to spend money locally). Also we have the Savannah River Deer Glowing factory, and that probably has some impact – but it’s ain’t like Barnwell is some shiny clean metropolis. There’s the federal monies for projects at USC and Clemson, I guess. The fed money for school is spread out pretty thin, depending on the poverty of the district. My guess is there’s a good bit in Medicaid block grant.
Point is, probably out each $3 – only about $1.20 is in programs for poverty etc, and the remainder is in the three big bases, and what’s left in Chucktown (which I think is still a major nuke school).
A lot of military folks retire in South Carolina also.
Yeah but I don’t think that’s counted.
They receive federal retirement.
I understand, just not sure that’s counted in the $3.00. Could be. Either way, nice day out. Another 10 degrees and I’m calling it Heaven.
I thought Trump was self funded. Turns out he has taken money from the Chinese in a visa selling racket.

No, I read it correctly. Feel the BERN!!!
South Carolina — $5.38 is the highest return on investment.

You were looking at the Federal Funding as % of State Revenue (Category Rank) column 4.
You’re correct.Once again I prove myself to be an uninformed idiot-a Bernie voter.
I’m the only uninformed moron around here!

Where’s the real flip pogo lately? Another Disques hack?
Whoa. interesting read.
Combines Money and immigration, gift wrapped for Cruz.
He is so vile.
Beginning about 1830, the North, via the federal government, began screwing over the South. It has taken awhile, but wily South Carolina has figured out to how to turn the screw on the Yankees.
The best of SC: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj3iNxZ8Dww
How can this be true? We’re not “takers.” We live in the Republican nirvana of low taxes on the rich, unorganized workers, and an ignorant and complacent electorate that keeps in office whomever the GOP establishment designates. After all these years of Republican political domination of the state, aren’t we on the threshold of paradise?
