A SAD DAY IN THE HOLY CITY …
Patrick Moffly – the 23-year-old son of former Charleston County, S.C. school board member Elizabeth Moffly – was shot and killed in the Holy City on Friday afternoon.
Moffly’s death has been ruled a homicide – and the city of Charleston, S.C. police department is conducting an investigation into what happened. So far, no details of that probe have been released – other than Moffly is alleged to have known the individual who shot him.
Moffly – a well-known area surfer and skateboarder from Awendaw, S.C. – was found at 97 Smith Street in downtown Charleston at around 4:00 p.m. EST. He was transferred to the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) hospital where he succumbed to his wounds following emergency surgery.
Elizabeth Moffly mounted unsuccessful bids for the GOP superintendent of education post (in 2010 and 2014) and for South Carolina’s first congressional district (in 2013).
Our thoughts and prayers go out to her – and to all of Patrick Moffly’s friends and family.

Here’s what you don’t know.
Prosecutors and the police pay attention to the comments for one reason only: They yield clues.
There is at least one fairly famous kidnap-rape-murder that was solved (guy got the death penalty) due to reader comments.
When the verdict was read and the scum taken away, the DA held a press conference – and publicly thanked the people who commented on the case – giving full credit to the person who provided the tip that broke the case, right then and there.
The DA didn’t have to do that, but since the comment helped them convict the guy the DA said he wanted to give credit where it was due.
So here’s a thought: Consider holding your opinion on matters in which you have no clue.

The piggish comments not withstanding, I am sure most people feel for the Moffly family. The loss of a family member brings intense sadness and grief. I would like to express my condolences.
Likely the roommates who said they were upstairs when the shooting happened, will be able to help. But as the police say it wasn’t random…truth is most people know their killers. They just weren’t expecting to be killed. Drugs or a girl is usually the focal point, at this age.

Excuse me asshole, but he wasn’t a slacker. He was a hard working kid in school. I worked on his fathers property and I can guarantee, that boy worked harder than almost anyone I know. Almost ever day he was fixing something, mowing grass, or bush hogging fields. He was an amazing person who would’ve befriended anyone. He didn’t always make the best decisions, but he had an amazing heart. Don’t talk shit about someone you don’t know.

I knew Patrick from previous years ago at the horse shows with his family. He was a happy go getter even back then riding his dirt bike around and helping in any way he could. This family is s tight knit family who took vacations together even when their children were in their 20’s which is very uncharacteristic for most families with adult children. David and Elizabeth are loving and compassionate people. Their whole family is the picture of love. I have such heartache for David, Elizabeth, Andrew and Bridgett. My God be with you.

Thanks for not making this into an ugly story. Poor Elizabeth is devastated. Can’t imagine burying a child, especially one that was taken this way.
