NOT WELL …
We’re old enough to understand what S.C. governor Nikki Haley meant when she referred to herself, establishment GOP presidential favorite Marco Rubio, U.S. Senator Tim Scott and U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy as a “Benetton commercial.”
Millennials probably didn’t understand what the hell she was talking about, but hey … they’ve been pretty busy these days.
Anyway Haley – an Indian woman – joined a Latino, a black man and a white man (with some really creepy hair) in barnstorming the state of South Carolina this month.
The goal of these “United Colors of the GOP Establishment?”
To put a fresh face on the “Republican” status quo …
Did it work?
Well, a whopping 96 percent of the 740,000-plus South Carolinians who cast ballots in the 2016 “Republican” presidential primary race were white – according to exit polling. Oh, and 77.5 percent of them voted against the candidate Haley and the cast of “Up With People” were endorsing.
So no … that “Benetton ad” didn’t play well. At all.
Look … we have no problem with diversity. And as we’ve stated repeatedly, we have zero tolerance for discrimination on the part of government. More broadly speaking, we believe freedom and free markets are colorblind and gender-neutral – and don’t care what you worship or who you love.
But we abhor diversity for diversity’s sake … especially when anti-freedom, anti-free market politicians trade on it at the expense of issues that really matter.
Apparently, we’re not alone in that belief …

“Benetton commercial.”
I saw the commercial on TV with the sound muted, I kept waiting for the used cars to pop up along with the “come on down” sign.
That about sums up SC in general. A bunch of idiots being led by used car salesmen. And you keep re-electing them too. So dumb.
Please don’t confuse diversity with blatant knee-jerk racism. The people who object to diversity are not sitting around talking about philosophy. They have been brought up to believe they are superior to people of color, and they take pride in the ignorance that guides their every action. They routinely vote against their own interests and are impossibly easy to manipulate. That is one reason why this state brings up the rear on so many social and economic measures.
Amen. At least it makes losers like Will Folks feel better about themselves.
Says you. No one votes against their economic interest in the long run… thus, what these whites you are chastising are really voting against is a promise that they know to not be true. You know, a promise of something for nothing. They instead realize that voting Democrst means that they’ll be providing the something – tax money – to other groups to do nothing.
That is certainly what Fox News tells you. In reality, Whites accept tremendous amounts of welfare and are unwilling to do jobs that members of other groups routinely take on. No one does “nothing” better than Whites, at least 3 in 10 of whom are obese.
Look at you, “face” …playing that race card like the liberal handbook tells you to.
You should join the rest of us for whom the colorblind thing is a way of life. You’ll be less stressed and you won’t have to demonize and smear those with whom you disagree politically.
It is… after all… 2016.
Try to keep up, princess.
Sorry moron. The article is about the race card. I call it like I see it.
Hmmm. I see I hit a nerve. Big surprise there.
Of course you call it like you see it. Unfortunately for you, you got caught *using* the race card because that’s what you’ve been taught is a good way to silence your opposition.
Too funny. Here, the moron badge fits you, not me.
Ed, DUDE! Don’t talk to this troll. Even his first sentence is a non-sequitur. A third-grader has enough logic not to mix up diversity with the opposite of diversity.
Their base doesn’t react to diversity too well, that’s why they are voting Republican in the first place. LMAO!!!
Maybe they should have gone with the “Citadel Commercial”
They could have billed themselves as the Four Sheets of the Apocalypse
Gotta give it to you. All you commenters are on your game today.
Folks, don’t hate me for this, but —- Trey Gowdy looks just like Michael Douglas in the film “Falling Down” // I hope that they both don’t share the same emotional stability !?
Great movie! I feel like William Foster at least one day per week, but I’m a little more careful with firearms…

Whatever…but, when you have a pinhead and give more attention to changing hairstyles than a teenaged boy…and, have a tiny little pinched nose that looks like it would go better on a 5 year old’s face, you shouldn’t wear big, black eyeglasses frames.
