One of the most bizarre stories of the “First in the South” presidential campaign occurred on Thursday evening in Greenville, S.C. when two of the GOP candidates in the race – U.S. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson – held a private meeting.
In a storage closet …
“It did not go as planned,” reporter Gideon Resnick of The Daily Beast reported.
With U.S. Secret Service agents standing guard outside the doors, the two candidates met for twenty-five minutes … in the dark.
“Yeah they’re in that closet,” one of the agents told a curious GOP operative.
Wow.
This is like “seven minutes in heaven.” Times three. Plus an extra minute.
At issue? Carson’s ongoing frustration with Cruz’s alleged “dirty tricks” – including the latter’s campaign spreading a false report on the evening of the Iowa Caucus that Carson was dropping out of the race.
Cruz narrowly won in Iowa, but has been dogged by allegations of dirty campaigning ever since. Those allegations have followed him to early-voting South Carolina, where he had hoped to challenge GOP frontrunner Donald Trump for first place but is instead trying to stave off a furious rally by “Republican” establishment favorite, Marco Rubio.

I did not vote for Carson but of the two of them, I would not trust Cruz as far as I can throw him.
